Seine

Painted by Sisley, Seurat, Turner, Monet, Matisse, Pissarro and many others, the Seine is surely France's most famous river.  It rises in hills to the north of Dijon in central France and flows north through Paris and its 37 bridges, through Rouen to its Channel estuary at Le Havre. The river is navigable by riverboat as far south as Burgundy and by small boats along its full length. Once heavily polluted by industry, the Seine is much cleaner today, and Atlantic salmon have been seen since 2009.
